INTERVIEW: Den tidligere Aabyhøj-spillere Demetrius Phillipser i gang med forberedelserne til en ny sæson. Denne sæson har Phillips spillet i både Slovakiet og Mexico, men afviser ikke at komme tilbage til Danmark, hvor særligt to klubber har den 207 centimeter høje amerikaners interesse.
Where have you played this past season?
This past season I played in Slovakia with club SKP Banska Bystrica and in Mexico with Cerveceros de Meoqui, fortæller Phillips, der sidste sæson spillede for Aabyhøj.
How was it compared to Denmark, both the level of play but also the organisation, fans, economy etc?
The levels were good . My team in Slovakia had financial issues which were the basis for my leaving. My club in Mex was great, definitely good people and great playing environment. The level of play in both leagues I would say is a bit better. Depends on the team mainly. My club in Slovakia finished in last place last season but I know we would’ve beat Falcon & Aalborg.
You and D’Mario Curry were a great duo. Do you keep in touch? If so, do you know where he’s at basketball wise?
Yeah I haven’t spoken to D’Mario. I actually wrote him but I never got a response. I know he has a family so likely had a busy summer with that. Last I heard he was in Japan in BJ League, siger Phillips.
Which teams do you find especially interesting in Denmark? And what type of team are you looking to play for?
I find Falcon and SISU interesting. I really want to win, that’s the main thing that I’m focusing on and I feel SISU is just a step away from a finals appearance, I feel like a few key players and myself could go far in the playoffs next season. I know coach Almir and have a tremendous amount of respect for him. I also remember a few of his plays and I’ve already imagined my niche and where I can get the ball in order to score. (LOL)
Will we see Demetrius Phillips in the danish league this upcoming season?
I don’t know. I can say I’m interested and teams are interesting but so are teams outside if DK like Switzerland, France and Germany. I’m going to take my time and see which is the best situation for me in the ’13-14 season, slutter Phillips.
